September 2018: Fox — The Camera Found Him When Trump Named German Gas

President Donald Trump addressed the 73rd United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2018. The White House archive text includes: “Germany will become totally dependent on Russian energy if it does not immediately change course.” Reuters the same day reported the line and the Nord Stream 2 context. CBS News and Roll Call reported laughter in the hall, including among German diplomats, when he named German dependence on Russian energy.

Fox News, in a later piece on German defense spending, wrote that “the camera panned to Germany’s delegation to the U.N. in 2018, including its then-U.N. Ambassador, Christoph Heusgen, and former Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who all seemingly laughed and smiled at Trump.” The Federalist (Cliff Sims, 21 February 2025) and Michael Barone (Washington Examiner / Townhall) repeated a version of that scene. Barone wrote that Heusgen “led his colleagues in laughing derisively.” That last verb is Barone’s commentary, not a transcript.

This page does not have Heusgen’s own on-record admission that he laughed. It does not invent a quote from him that day. Fox’s “seemingly laughed and smiled” is labeled reporting. Trump’s energy sentence is in the official remarks. After 2022, Germany’s gas shock is a separate public record; this site does not turn a camera pan into a crime.

He warned them about Russian gas. The row smiled. Fox named the ambassador. Years later the same ambassador cried about values. That is the pairing the record allows. Not a conviction. A camera and a speech.
