On 26 July 2017, United Nations Meetings Coverage issued BIO/4991: Christoph Heusgen presented his credentials as Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany. The note lists the Merkel advisory years, the Solana Policy Unit, and the earlier Foreign Office posts. That is the identity lock for the New York job.
Germany sat as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2019–2020. FGS Global’s hire note states he “twice served as President of the UN Security Council during Germany’s tenure as a non-permanent member.” UN audiovisual and press materials name him Council President for April 2019 and for July 2020. On 1 June 2020, UN press coverage of a joint France–Germany briefing quotes him on a “European spring” of Council presidencies and on “strengthening the Council and bolstering multilateralism.” A 1 July 2020 virtual briefing quotes him: “The rules-based international order is alive and kicking.”
He left the Foreign Service in 2021 (FGS; secondary bios). The UN years are the Trump-term posting. This page does not invent a vote he did not cast in his personal name. National votes are Germany’s. His job was to speak for Berlin in that building.
